The Twitter Files have just confirmed our worst fears about what the U.S. government might be doing behind closed doors to help keep the Democrats in power and here are the two most important takeaways.
Journalist Matt Taibbi, who was tasked with sharing the contents of the files reveals that the biggest takeaway, in his opinion, is the fact that government agencies have been proven to be involved in monitoring and censoring speech in America on a micro level.
Taibbi refers to internal Twitter messages which include conversations revealing how agencies, such as the FBI and the DHS, are monitoring and flagging individual things – proving they’re keeping a tight grip on public discourse.
He notes that this is a massive operation in which multiple government agencies have been caught red-handed pushing to censor conservatives.
The second biggest takeaway from the files is the revelation that Twitter, in conjunction with the federal government, has in fact been shadow banning individuals and certain topics, using a tool they refer to as “visibility filtering.”
He states that the social media platform can completely control the amount of traffic directed towards certain accounts.
Taibbi says that Twitter had been lying for years about doing shadow banning and the files exposed that.
While much of this foul play has long been suspected, the release of these damming Twitter files confirms that the government is most certainly acting against its own people, and this could be just the start.
