Texas Senator Ted Cruz reminded Biden’s Nominee for the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield of her 2020 speech at a U.S. Confucius Institute at the same time America is creating legislation to shut down this and other Chinese organizations seeking to infiltrate the nation.
For those who don’t know the Confucius Institute is an espionage tool for the Chinese government. They use it to spy on other country’s military, certain industries and allows them to keep tabs on Chinese students studying abroad. China claims it’s an educational arm funded by their government to teach college students the Chinese language, culture and history. In reality, they present a Beijing approved version of their culture and history that ignores the communist nation’s human rights violations, history of warfare, and desire to rule the entire world. The intelligence services of several countries have investigated Confucius Institutes
Rather than condemning the Chinese Communist Party, Thomas-Greenfield notes her $1,500 honorarium from Savannah State University for speaking to students, including at the Confucius Institute. She now says she regrets speaking at the event, yet acts as if she was unaware of the concerns, despite her 30-plus years of Chinese study and involvement.
The truth is that she “will not be working against” Chinese efforts as stated. Cruz correctly notes her speech did not include a single criticism of the Chinese Communist Party, instead he points out she even argued in the speech that America should follow China’s lead!
Rather than drawing attention to human rights violations, including genocide or government oppression, another Biden nominee reveals herself as a Chinese supporter. At its current rate, the Biden team will end up being a bullhorn for China’s greatness rather than opposing its communism or even its crime.
Senator Cruz is doing his job in vetting this nominee. I hope other senators do so too. Do not rubber stamp any of the nominees.
