According to reports, the NYPD continues to experience unprecedented numbers of early retirements and police transferring out of one of America’s worst-run cities. How bad has the purge of experienced officers been in recent weeks? How about 5,300 officers are heading for the exit because the state’s failed Democrat politicians refuse to back the blue.
The Big Apple now finds itself staring off an experience and qualification cliff because any officer who can leave or retire will. Not only have city officials backstabbed the men and women who make up the thin blue line, but they’ve also gone to work defunding the police.
Budget cuts have resulted in reductions in patrols and safety equipment necessary to keep police and citizens safe. Adding insult to injury, New York City removed the important “qualified immunity” that allows police to use force when a criminal presents a clear and present danger. Beyond handcuffing them from protecting and serving, police officers’ salaries are pathetically low.
