Anyone looking for yet another reason to leave New York state only has to look as far as their Assembly Bill A416. The bill, if passed, would give Democrat authoritarian Gov. Andrew Cuomo authority to detain or remove anyone deemed a public health threat.
Yet another step forward and egged on by the golden opportunity of the COVID-19 pandemic, New York Democrats also want more. The bill states that a questionable individual or group of people “shall be detained in a medical facility or other appropriate facility or premises designated by the governor.”
In fact, even someone without an illness can be rounded up and shipped off to the Cuomo detention camp. They only have had to have contact with someone else who might have been sick, even if they are symptom-free.
Said Cody Anderson, chair of the Libertarian Party of New York, who urges New York legislators to denounce the bill, “This bill offers a clear and direct path to unconstitutional and indefinite detainment, on the governor’s sole authority. No US state was ever meant to have a single person acting as judge and jury, without checks or balances; if this bill is allowed to pass, that is exactly what New York will have.”
