The best way to deal with this, since we cannot legally force our media to post only truth, would be to move slander and libel from the civil courts to the criminal. If we did that, then a news outlet would have to prove an incident was actually a hate crime in any article stating one, otherwise they would be guilty of libel or slander. Even if the crimes were misdemeanors, conviction of such actions would remove any sense of credibility in the eyes of the American people, and could result in jail time for offending reporters. As it is now, with slander and libel only in civil courts, no jail time is permitted, and convictions keep getting challenged and appealed by the wealthy newspapers, so the less wealthy that are often harmed by their lies cannot afford to pursue justice.
