To celebrate World Press Freedom Day, Vice President Kamala Harris tweeted, “A free press is critical to democracy.”
Edward Snowden blasted the vice president. He tweeted, “You’re seeking a 175-year sentence for an internationally award-winning publisher of news—despite protests from the United Nations, Amnesty International, the ACLU, the world’s leading newspapers…”
He linked to a New York Times story with details.
Snowden was referring to the Biden administration’s ongoing prosecution of Assange, seeking his extradition from the U.K.
Whether you agree with Assange or not, it’s hard to celebrate press freedom and hold such actions against him at the same time.
Snowden should know a thing or two about this topic. Many forget he is a former CIA consultant who leaked classified information from the NSA about sweeping surveillance taking place in America.

Julian Assange knows a lot that could be incriminating to the Clintons and the DNC. If the US is successful in extraditing him from the UK, Assange likely has a serious risk of “committing suicide” while being held here.
