College Students Want Medicare for All But Don’t Want to Pay for It

Campus Reform recently asked students at Virginia Tech if health care is a human right and if they would contribute to a fund for Medicare for All. Their answer to both questions revealed the issue is more complicated than what politicians like Bernie Sanders would lead us to believe.

A report this past June from the Kaiser Family Foundation showed that about three-fourths of Americans support expanding public health insurance programs, including lowering the age to receive Medicare to 55.

ProPublica says those numbers drop to less than half when what Sanders has proposed – a single-payer national health insurance system – is considered. And as ProPublica observes, “They essentially evaporate if it means eliminating private insurance, increasing taxes or disrupting the current Medicare system, with about 60% opposing a national health care plan.”

During his campaign, Former Vice President Joe Biden contended Medicare-for-all is too controversial and costly an experiment. However, his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris was a major backer of Sanders plan.

Four of the five leading Democrats backed raising taxes to fund a Medicare-for-All plan. These included Senators Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders.

Margaret Coates, a medical billing specialist says none of these politicians understand what they are advocating. “Politicians have no clue what it’s like out here.”

Watch the video as Campus Reform Video Correspondent Addison Smith asks Virginia Tech students if they would donate their own money to help fund Medicare for All, their answers are very telling.

  1. Welcome to the real world young adults. Nothing is free in this world, except the air we breathe and the opportunity and the opportunity to contribute to help, someone is always footing the bill. If you want to live like a third world country with free healthcare which actually is pretty non-existent then think reality!

    1. Amen! Very well said!! And you would think how fo students get into College with No brains to start with….Brainwashing from Uncle Bernie and the Demorats!

  2. When the ratio of liberal teachers and professors to conservative ones is 12 to 1, you get these uneducated snowflakes that have no interest in our country’s history or facts! The “critical race theory” training that our children have brainwashed with is being thrown out and replace with POTUS executive order, “The 1776 Commission”! This ‘critical race theory’ has been used to make our own children HATE THEMSELVES for being Americans. It’s all part of the deep state plan to turn our kids against us and our American values!
Over 20 researchers and professors have been arrested for teaching SEDITION to our country! We need Trump back in office to STOP our children from being taught to hate our history, their race and our country! VOTE TRUMP2020!

  3. Those of us who have paid for Medicare most of our lives have very severe reservations about having to pay more now so that everyone else can benefit from what we’ve been paying for already.

    1. Message to College kids- nothing is free despite what Bernie Sanders, AOC and others say. Taxes are what pay for these supposed freebies. More freebies much higher 60% plus taxes. Understand? This idea of medicare for all can’t even afford the existing seniors who have paid for years on the plan, much less to include the whole nation as well as illegal aliens. People have to work 30-40 years contributing to the system to be able to retire at 66 then get retirement. More important learn to save. Money does not come easy and social security is often not enough. Be wise, don’t let these democrats tickle your ears. One more thing–often things purchased are not a necessity and wind up being discarded or given away or better yet share your wealth with those less fortunate. Another better investment is save and when you are able travel. There is so much beauty in this world and so many wonderful people to meet and develop relationships that will make a difference in your outlook on life. God Bless you on your life’s journey.

  4. As a senior who has been paying for Medicare most of my adult life, I object to the idea that my current premiums should increase to provide the same benefits I’ve earned to others who have never paid anything.

  5. Go out their and ask some Doctors about what they got to say about it.They definitely aren’t going to work for free.Never talk about them.
