Did you know Bill Gates has given a reported $319 million to media outlets in the last year to influence their coverage? That’s the topic behind the latest video from PowerfulJRE.
First, the report states the obvious: “For sure [the money] has some sort of an impact on how they cover him.”
Gates is essentially buying positive coverage for himself and the issues he cares most about: getting everyone vaccinated.
Gates is also funding think tanks, groups that recommend national and foreign policies. What is he trying to influence?
Some think it’s all about PR for his Gates Foundation. The group helps with education and medical needs worldwide. But it doesn’t seem a big enough issue to justify the enormous media expense.
Plus, the report reveals the Gates Foundation is funding grants toward journalism, ranging from BBC to NBC to Al-Jazeera. It could have something to do both with positive coverage of Gates’ areas of focus as well as what the media chooses not to cover. Interesting to consider the enormous consequences this could have, especially considering he’s the same guy who founded Microsoft that runs on the vast majority of the world’s computers.
