A leaked phone call transcript reveals President Joe Biden urged Afghan President Ghani to “project a different picture.” Mark Meadows and Constitutional Scholar Alan Dershowitz discussed the likelihood Republicans will impeach the 46th President on “Greg Kelly Reports.”
When asked, Dershowitz answered, “I opposed impeachment based on the phone call that President Trump made to the leader of Ukraine. I opposed that impeachment. I would impose this impeachment.”
He added, “It might be a good reason for deciding not to vote for President Biden in the next election, or Democrats in the next election, but the Constitution specifically requires criminal type behavior, treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Treason is specifically defined in the Constitution. It just doesn’t meet the Constitutional criteria.”
Dershowitz later added, “There are no legal consequences. There are political consequences. When the framers debated impeachment, some of them thought there should be impeachable consequences, formal administration. James Madison said no and that was defeated and instead we made it almost impossible to impeach and remove. That’s why we never have impeached and remove a sitting president. The option is political, not legal.”
