Chicago has announced a new rule that says police officers are no longer allowed to chase people on foot if they suspect them of minor offenses and they run away.
It’s the latest in several odd moves in a city besieged by violence. Chicago is led by a radical Democratic mayor who continues to struggle with violent crime. Stopped by police for suspected minor crime and run away. Oh, well, I guess you get a pass as the law no longer allows a chase.
Just last month, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a teen curfew on weekends after a young person was shot and killed in the city. Now police won’t even be allowed to chase a person suspected of minor crimes, giving criminals an even bigger advantage against Chicago’s police.
Most police are not happy with the announcement. Instead of backing the blue, the city continues to restrict its own officers from protecting the public. It’s so bad that the city’s population has seen severe decline. Many residents have left for red states willing to stop mistreatment of police and supportive of basic constitutional rights.
