Why do Republican Senators always fall for this? Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has “teamed up” with 78-year-old communist Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) in the “spirit of bipartisanship” to pass a gigantic increase in the federal minimum wage. Hawley and Welch want to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Again—why do Republicans always fall for this when they’re in the majority?
Let’s say for a minute that this minimum wage bill was to be passed and signed into law. A few years later, Hawley will go back to his “good friend” and “colleague” Peter Welch and say, “Hey, remember that time when I helped you pass that minimum wage increase? Well, I’ve got a bill that would cut taxes/provide more border security/stop transing the kids, so I was hoping that we could…”
By this point in the conversation, Welch would have started laughing at Hawley and walked away. They never reciprocate whenever they manage to sucker Republican Senators into backing their unpopular and stupid policies.
Democrats are always singling out gullible Republicans in this way. They’ll pinky-swear to help the GOP Senator cut funding to Planned Parenthood, if they’ll first help them pass an amnesty or gun control bill. When the Democrats get back into the majority, they’ll just ignore or mock the GOP Senator. Every. Single. Time.
