A Walmart shoplifting stop in Canton, Ohio, nearly turned into a murder scene—and it’s all caught on wild bodycam footage that’s now going viral.
It started like a routine call. A man and woman were caught allegedly stealing from Walmart and held in the store’s security office until police arrived. The officer sits them down, starts asking questions, and even gets handed a pen and paper to do the paperwork. Nothing out of the ordinary—until everything goes sideways in seconds.
The male suspect, 21-year-old Shane Newman, suddenly pulls a gun and points it right at the officer’s head. He pulls the trigger not once, but twice. Both times? Click. The gun jammed. If that weapon had worked, we’d be talking about a cop assassination in aisle 5.
Luckily, a brave Walmart security guard sprang into action and tackled Newman mid-attack. The officer, now realizing what’s happening, draws his own weapon but holds fire to avoid hitting the security employee. Together, they wrestle Newman to the ground and disarm him before backup arrives.
Turns out, this genius of a criminal had an active warrant and was labeled “armed and dangerous.” Funny how he told the officer he only had a cellphone. Oh, and that little container he handed over? Yeah, it had illegal drugs in it.
The woman with him, Katerina Jeffrey, asked if they were going to jail. The officer replied, “Not unless something crazy happens.” Seconds later, her buddy tried to blow the officer’s head off. So, yeah—they’re both going to jail.
Newman is now facing attempted murder and assault charges. Jeffrey? Charged with complicity to robbery and having weapons under disability.
This could’ve ended in tragedy. Instead, it’s a miracle, thanks to some quick thinking by a former Marine turned security guard and a malfunctioning firearm.
Watch the jaw-dropping bodycam video for yourself. You won’t believe how close this came to being a funeral.
