We’ve seen some jaw-droppingly stupid displays in liberal churches before, but this one really takes the cake. A liberal church has put up a nativity scene this year that depicts the baby Jesus in an (Obama) ICE detention cage, the three wise men stuck on the other side of a border wall and some other stupidity.
Don’t get us wrong, there’s nothing bad about mixing politics and religion — so long as you are biblically accurate. We wouldn’t have that whole “rule of law” thing in Western Civilization, after all, were it not for the Bible and Christianity. But the idea that Jesus was in favor of open borders or opposed to enforcing laws is blasphemous.
Jesus, after all, CREATES the borders between nations, according to the book of Acts, for His will and purposes. The Gospels contain multiple stories of Jesus referring to foreigners as dogs and pigs, because they belonged to lawless cultures that had rejected God. Moses and the Israelites showed total respect for nations’ borders and sovereignty, even as the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness in the book of Numbers. They refused to cross borders without permission of the host governments.
Christianity is pro-borders and pro-nationalism, and no amount of dumb nativity scenes or hurt feelings will ever change that. Liberal churches that suggest otherwise are hell-bound apostates that don’t even know who Jesus is.
