U.S. Denies Any Involvement in Failed Venezuela Coup Attempt

Daily Caller’s Jason Hopkins reports there is  a major disinformation campaign concerning supposed US involvement in an alleged coup attempt in Venezuela.

A State Department spokesperson said in a statement:

As President Trump and Secretary Esper said, the United States Government was not involved in recent events in Venezuela. There is a major disinformation campaign underway by the Maduro regime, making it difficult to separate facts from propaganda.

The comment was prompted by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s announcement on Monday that he had taken two U.S. citizens into custody he claims were part of a mercenary group seeking to take down his regime. Maduro claims the U.S. government not only knew about the coup attempt but was directly involved in its execution.

This marks the latest incident involving Maduro’s leftist government and the U.S. The White House offered a $15 million bounty in March for information that leads to Mauro’s capture. He has been identified as the leader of an international drug cartel.

The spokesman said, “The record of falsehoods and manipulation by Maduro and his accomplices, as well as their highly questionable representation of the details, argues that nothing should be taken at face value when we see the distorting of facts.”
