Tulsi Gabbard Rips Own Party over New House Rules

The new permanent Office of Diversity and Inclusion U.S. House of Representatives led by Nancy Pelosi used its first day in session to establish a permanent Office of Diversity and Inclusion and approve gender-neutral language in the official House rules.

According to the Advocate, “The changes mean that the rules document will use language such as ‘parent,’ ‘child,’ and ‘sibling’ instead of ‘mother,’ ‘father,’ ‘son,’ ‘daughter,’ ‘brother,’ and ‘sister.’ It will also replace ‘chairman’ with ‘chair,’ ‘seamen’ with ‘seafarers,’ and ‘himself’ and ‘herself’ with ‘themself.’ The Office of the Whistleblower Ombudsman will become the Office of the Whistleblower Ombuds.”

The motion passed with votes along party lines 217-206. Pelosi said Democrats have crafted a line-up of “bold reforms,” that she promises will make the House “more accountable, transparent and effective in our work to meet the needs of the American people.”

In a confusing move of hypocrisy, the bill only applies to the rules document and does not prevent members of the House from using gendered language in any other communication.

In its usual biased manner, the fact-checking site Snopes wrote, The move “would not impinge upon the freedom of any House members to use gender-specific language in the course of conducting the business of the House.”
