Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sat down for a discussion with one of President Donald Trump’s most vile haters to talk about tariffs, and by the end of it Bessent seemingly managed to convert the person a fan of Trump’s tariffs!
Bessent’s chat was with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, the miserable Trump-hating anchor who the president often has public feuds with.
Collins has a well-documented history of trashing Trump and trying to convince anybody who watches CNN how “evil” the President is.
Fueled by her hatred for Trump, Collins went into the Bessent interview with every intention of slamming Trump’s Liberation Day tariffs but when she actually started listening to Bessent explain them to her, something weird happened.
Bessent explains how historically speaking, the country with the trade deficit always has an advantage in trade escalations. In this case, the United Sates is the country with the single largest trade deficit – meaning we are ALWAYS going to be favored in a “trade war.”
As the interview goes on, Bessent breaks down to Collins how the Trump-imposed Tariffs will raise tax revenue so that working-class Americans can avoid having to pay so much money in taxes.
“This is really a working class [sic] plan.” Bessent stated.
Throughout the interview, Collins continues trying to say the equivalent of “tariffs bad” but every time she does, Bessent gives her a world-class economics lesson to explain why she’s wrong.
By the end of it, Collins seems to be much more friendly with the Trump cabinet official than she has been with anybody in the MAGA movement in quite some time.
