A Department of Justice employee was arrested and subsequently fired from his job in the White House after assaulting a federal officer with a sandwich during heightened security operations in Washington, D.C.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed Thursday that the suspect, 37-year-old Charles Dunn, was taken into custody and charged with felony assault on a federal officer. Dunn, a DOJ staffer at the time of the incident, was reportedly angered by President Trump’s decision to federalize Washington’s police force and increase patrols in response to the city’s violent crime rates.
“If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you,” Bondi said. “I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER. Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony.”
Crime in the District has drawn national attention, with spikes in robbery, carjacking, and assaults in recent years. The Trump administration has argued that federal intervention was necessary to restore order.
“This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ,” Bondi added. “You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”

The arrest underscores one of the central challenges facing the Trump administration: identifying and removing federal employees who openly resist directives from elected leadership. While the sandwich-throwing incident may appear trivial on its face, but the incident is indicative of The Deep State working from within to disrupt President Trump from implementing his agenda to make America safer—even deep blue cities like Washington D.C.
