Trump Offers Canada Two Guarantees It Can Keep as the 51st State

Less than five minutes into his speech in Park City, Kansas, on Monday night, President Trump got interrupted. Then he got interrupted again.

Sheriff's deputies escorted 11 "uninvited individuals" out of the arena. Trump had a theory about who sent them. "They get $250 and they scream out some stupid thing, their parents go crazy," he said. "They get $250 and they go to jail."

The roughly 6,000 people who came to see him didn't seem to mind. Several hundred more gathered outside.

Trump was there for one reason, and he said it plainly. "I love you Kansas, but I'm here for a guy named Roger Marshall."

Democrats are trying to win a Kansas Senate seat for the first time in nearly a century. Their candidate is Adam Hamilton, a megachurch pastor who says its not important for Christians to believe the stories in the Bible. Especially the story about Jesus' birth. Trump carried Kansas by more than 16 points in 2024, and he flew in two weeks before Election Day to make sure Kansas doesn't hand the Senate a Democrat.

He brought the numbers. The White House says more than $735 million in emergency aid has reached nearly 53,000 Kansas farmers hit by 2024 crop-year disasters. The administration also announced $222 million in first-year rural health funding, the kind of money that keeps small-town clinics open while hospital chains consolidate in the cities.

Trump announced an $8 billion harvest fuel relief program. The White House also pointed to a planned $3 billion data center campus in De Soto and an $895 million Merck Animal Health expansion.

Then he turned to Canada.

Trade talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney's government collapsed in August, and Trump told the crowd Canada has been "ripping off" the United States. For months, his answer has been simple: Canada can become the 51st state.

On Monday night, he added two guarantees. "I will let you keep ice hockey," he said, "and I will let you keep your 'O Canada.'"

The arena roared. "No, we're only kidding," Trump said. "We're having a good time."

The Canada line will lead every newscast. The $735 million for Kansas farmers probably won't, but the 53,000 farmers who got those checks already know about it.

Hamilton's campaign answered the same night. Spokesman Tyson Brody said Marshall's campaign "is sinking, and Washington is panicking," and accused Republicans of sending "reinforcements to lie and attack Adam Hamilton."

That was the Democrats' best response to a sitting President standing in a packed Kansas arena with $735 million in farm aid behind him.

The Canada offer has no deadline. Marshall's race does: November 3.
