Trump Admin Scores Two Big Wins on Immigration. Liberal Media Completely Ignores It.

The Twitter universe isn’t the only one that counts!

That’s the message from Republican Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska, who tells Fox’s Neil Cavuto that despite the president’s tweets overshadowing big stories coming out of Congress, the real news is actually pretty good, as he explains in the clip.

The first piece of good news is that the House of Representatives passed the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, which raises penalties for undocumented immigrants (such as members of the violent MS-13 gang) who come back into the U.S. after they’re deported. It also revokes federal grants for sanctuary cities that don’t enforce federal immigration laws.

The second piece of good news is that the House passed what’s known as “Sarah’s Law,” named for Iowan Sarah Root, who was killed when an undocumented immigrant hit her vehicle in a DUI case. The immigrant was subsequently released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after he was detained. Under Sarah’s Law, ICE will now be required to retain prisoners (as opposed to releasing them) in any cases where they’ve been charged in crimes causing serious injury or death.

Both of these laws are big immigration reform victories for Republicans.

As Bacon says, Trump’s tweets may be entertaining, but in terms of inspiring civility between the two parties in government, they aren’t helping to get a lot of governing done. Hopefully, the president will lighten up on these spirited, but often distracting commentaries and help with efforts to get health care and tax reform squared away by the end of the fiscal year. Watch as Bacon explains what the House has been accomplishing while the media has been crowing about other matters.
