Trey Gowdy: “Defund the Police is the Single Dumbest Idea I’ve Ever Heard”

There’s a huge cry to reform criminal justice right now. Pretty much everyone can agree that there are at least rare instances of police unjustly killing people in this country. Most of us can agree that a positive effort to make that happen less is a good thing. Then, we get to how, and that leads to major disagreement.

There are three big movements for reforming policing right now. The first is to invest in the police. Give them more training and more resources and there will probably be less shooting. Cities like Dallas have already done this to incredible success. The second movement is to abolish the police. Idiot leftists want to replace well-trained police organizations with unruly militias or community resource officers, whatever those are. They think that will have fewer unjustified deaths. Brilliant.

The third movement is to defund the police. The idea is to divest from police departments and give that money to schools and social workers. That will magically make crime go away, so we won’t need police anymore. Yay!

This third idea is arguably dumber and more dangerous than abolishing the police (which is both dumb and dangerous). It’s a plan that is set up to fail that can be used to justify further extremism down the road. This brings us to the firestorm made by former congressman Trey Gowdy.

This short video hits all of the major concerns that you have already considered, and it brings them to life. Watch this video to be reminded that you aren’t the crazy one. You aren’t the unreasonable one. Getting rid of the police is a bad idea, and we all know it. This is extremism for the sake of extremism because everyone got cabin fever being locked in their homes.
