The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) recently released footage from its annual “Socialism Conference” where its members laid out a chilling vision for reshaping American life: abolishing the traditional nuclear family.
The panel discussion, titled “The Left and the Family: A Roundtable,” didn’t mince words. Speakers described the nuclear family as “an inherently repressive, racist, and hetero-sexist institution that functionally reinforces and reproduces capitalism.” Their solution? To “destroy the nuclear family as an economic unit” and fundamentally change “the way we live now,” including “who your parents are, who you partner with, [and] how many children you have.”
This isn’t just abstract theory. These aren’t anonymous fringe activists on the internet. The DSA is one of the most prominent socialist organizations in the United States — and its influence reaches deep into Congress. High-profile members of the Democratic Party, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), are openly affiliated with the group.
The panel’s rhetoric echoes language from the Communist Manifesto, which explicitly calls for the abolition of the family as a step toward dismantling capitalist societies. That’s not an exaggeration — it’s their own stated framework.
And here’s why this matters: When they talk about “abolishing the nuclear family,” they aren’t just talking about theory. They’re talking about replacing the family as the central unit of American life with something run and regulated by the state. That means more control over how children are raised, what values are taught, and who ultimately makes the decisions for your household.
These are not harmless academic musings. They are policy goals. And when those goals come from an organization whose members sit in Congress, they become a direct threat to every family who believes in the right to raise their children without government intrusion.
