President Trump has been locked in a battle of words with the so-called “Squad” of progressive Democratic congresswomen, one of whom is Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. Not only is Omar vocally anti- Semitic, but she could well be in danger of federal prosecution for tax fraud related to marrying her brother.
Since she first showed up on the political radar, Omar has been followed by credible accusations that she married her brother and as a result committed marriage and immigration fraud.
Omar’s younger brother’s name, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is also the name of her first husband. Omar’s 2009 marriage license shows her husband as not only having the same name but the same date of birth.
Though she has offered little rebuttal Omar excused her lack of transparency by telling Minneapolis reporters, “there are particular challenges to getting a legal divorce…one of those is getting the cooperation and presence of the other person who you are divorcing.”
The problem with Omar’s response is that Minnesota is considered a “no-fault” state. In that state, “courts can enter a divorce decree upon showing that 1) one of the parties has lived in the state for 180 days prior to the commencement of the proceedings and 2) the marriage is irretrievably broken.”
