Sherriff Offers Free Gun Training Class for Teachers…Slots Fill in Just 20 Minutes

Following the horrific school shooting that took place in Parkland, FL, individuals on both sides of the aisle have once again begun offering up solutions for how these shootings can be thwarted in the future. On the left, most of these solutions have centered around new gun control measures.

Those on the right, though – convinced that more laws won’t stop people who are already intent on breaking the law – have offered a few more innovative solutions.

One such solution is the idea of arming teachers so that they would be able to fight back if they ever found themselves faced with an active shooter. Taking it upon himself to make this solution a reality, a sheriff in Ohio posted that he would be offering free firearms training classes to teachers. After just twenty minutes, all the slots for this class were full.

This result speaks to the desire that many teachers have to be able to defend themselves and fight back rather than hoping that a new law or regulation will keep them and their students safe. In a country where firearms will always be easily accessible no matter what laws are passed, the only thing capable of stopping a bad guy with a gun is a good guy who is armed as well.
