Ted Cruz is good at pointing out the hypocrisy of the Left. Especially when that hypocrisy extends to the confirmation of a Supreme Court Justice.
The Democrats have essentially created a double standard for Court nominees — on the one hand, they claim they want justices who will rule fairly and impartially, but on the other hand, when a decision is handed down that they don’t like, they’re lightning-quick to condemn a judge for “interpreting” the law the wrong way. They even seem to believe a Court nominee should answer questions about the actions of the president who nominated him or her.
But as Senator Cruz notes, this is two-faced. There is no “right way” and “wrong way” to interpret the U.S. Constitution; in fact, the Constitution shouldn’t be interpreted at all; it should simply be followed as it was written. If there are extra laws that need to be added to pertain to certain cases, that’s what the Constitutional Amendment process is for.
And it should be noted that previous Supreme Court justices never had to answer questions about Democratic presidents when they were nominated. Therefore, the Gorsuch hearings thus far have mostly been a charade; all the Democrats have been trying to do is trip Gorsuch up with litmus-test questions about abortion and immigration, but Gorsuch is too smart for them.
Watch this clip to see how calm Gorsuch looks as Ted Cruz attacks his Senate counterparts on the other side of the aisle for their duplicity.
