Rex Tillerson is Out, but It’s Not for the Reason the Mainstream Media is Saying

President Trump has chosen to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, tapping CIA Director Mike Pompeo to take up the role. So far, the media has painted Rex Tillerson’s firing as a brash and unexpected decision that caught those in the White House by surprise. According to Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, though, Tillerson’s firing is something that Washington insiders have been expecting for some time.

It’s important that a President has a strong personal connection with his Secretary of State, as the President and Secretary of State must work closely together on countless highly important issues, perhaps more so than any other cabinet position. This close personal connection is something that President Trump and Rex Tillerson never had. As Trump and Tillerson continued to disagree on one issue after another, White House officials could see the writing on the wall.

The good news is that Tillerson’s replacement, Mike Pompeo gets along very well with President Trump and is likely to gel nicely into the role of Secretary of State. In addition to having a strong connection with the President, Pompeo certainly has the background to take up this role as well, having graduated from West Point and Harvard Law before being elected to Congress and going on to serve as the CIA director.
