Obama vs Trump: Who Had the Better Response to a Viral Outbreak

Democratic presidential candidates wasted no time in accusing President Trump of politicizing the coronavirus outbreak while saying Trump is reacting too slowly to the current crisis.

The President was quick to respond via Twitter, “I was criticized by the Democrats when I closed the Country down to China many weeks ahead of what almost everyone recommended. Saved many lives. Dems were working the Impeachment Hoax … Now they are fear mongering.”

Trump’s right to point out that he’s been working on limiting the scope of the spread of the virus for months now and taking precautions Democrats hated. Trump has also been right to point out, Obama’s response to the viral crisis he faced during his time in office fell far short of what President Trump has done already.

The Swine Flu (H1N1) was first detected in April 2009 in the U.S. With a description eerily similar to Covid-19, the CDC said the “virus was a unique combination of influenza virus genes never previously identified in either animals or people.”

It wasn’t until Oct. 2009 that Obama finally declared H1N1 a public health emergency on November 12, 2009, the CDC estimated 22 million Americans had been infected with the virus and 4,000 had died.

China first reported the Coronavirus December 31, 2019. January 31, 2020, President Trump declared a public health emergency. RedState’s Elizabeth Vaughn observed, “Despite the unwarranted criticism coming from the left, the government appears to be focused on protecting Americans.”
