Obama Tries to Take Credit for Trump’s Economic Boom

Imagine a trans-Pacific voyage on a large, slow-moving vessel that will take several months to complete. During the journey, a series of captains are going to be taking the helm successively. By now you probably realize we’re setting up a metaphor for the Office of the President. So you might as well imagine that the crew has a say in who will be captain.

Suppose our ship, we’ll call it the USS Ship of State, had a series of three captains; the first of which spent an exorbitant amount of money sending security teams to plunder passing islands, the second confiscated accommodations from technical crew and doled them out to the yeomen- while telling the yeomen the technical crew had been stealing from them, and finally- a captain who had previously run a series of successful yacht brokerages.

Skipping ahead a bit, let’s say the third captain is one week from taking his position and the tech crew starts making bets between them that are based on an expectation of prosperity. As a result, the internal economy of the ship takes a sharp upturn.

Then, predictably, the second captain starts saying that he set things up for future prosperity and takes credit- saying the third captain never had a chance to even make any meaningful decisions.

This is essentially what’s going on. Obama is currently saying he’s responsible for the upturn in the economy, which all reasonable commentators attribute to Trump. Watch this clip, with all the cringe-worthy details.
