NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Says Americans Should Look to Islam and Profit Muhammad to Support Mass Immigration

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani crossed a line this week—and it’s one that should unsettle every American, regardless of party.

During a Friday press conference on immigration enforcement, Mamdani didn’t just criticize ICE or federal policy. He went much further. He explicitly argued that U.S. immigration policy should be guided by Islam and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, framing America’s border debate through a religious lens that has no place in a secular constitutional republic.

Mamdani has already vowed not to cooperate with the Trump administration in removing criminal illegal aliens from New York City. But this was different. This wasn’t bureaucratic resistance or political posturing. This was a mayor of the largest city in the country openly suggesting that American law should take cues from religious doctrine.

At the press conference, Mamdani told reporters that his views on immigration are rooted in his faith.

“I consider my own faith, Islam, a religion built upon a narrative of migration,” Mamdani said.

He went on to reference the Hijrah—the Prophet Muhammad’s flight from Mecca to Medina—arguing that it should shape how Americans think about modern immigration policy.

“The story of the Hijrah reminds us that Prophet Muhammad was a stranger too, who fled Mecca and was welcomed in Medina,” he said.

Mamdani then quoted directly from the Quran to justify his stance.

“As for those who immigrate in the cause of Allah who are being persecuted, we will surely bless them with a good home in this world,” he said, adding, “Or as the Prophet Muhammad said, Islam began as something strange and will go back to being strange. So glad tidings to the strangers.”

When he finished, the room erupted in applause.

That reaction should worry people. This wasn’t an academic discussion of faith or a personal reflection. This was a sitting mayor using religious scripture to argue for mass migration and open resistance to federal law.

As if that weren’t alarming enough, Mamdani also bragged that his administration is actively helping illegal aliens evade immigration enforcement.

“We have prepared 30,000 guides in 10 languages teaching our neighbors what to do if ICE targets them,” he said.

If you think that sounds exaggerated, don’t take anyone’s word for it. Watch Mamdani say it himself.
