Meet Brad Lander, NYC Comptroller and mayoral wannabe, who just discovered the hard way that federal agents don’t care about your campaign schedule.
Picture this: Lander shows up at federal immigration court, probably practicing his “hero speech” in the car. His brilliant plan? Physically escort a defendant away from ICE agents like some kind of budget superhero.
What could possibly go wrong?
When ICE agents did their job and took custody of the illegal immigrant, Lander literally grabbed onto the guy like a toddler refusing to give up his favorite toy.
“I would like to see the warrant and then I will let go!” he yelled, apparently thinking ICE agents work for the NYC Comptroller’s office.
Here’s where it gets beautiful. As federal agents are prying this grown man off their detainee, Lander starts lecturing them about their authority:
“You don’t have the authority to arrest US citizens!”
Narrator voice: They absolutely did have that authority.
“I’m not obstructing, I’m standing right here in the hallway!”
Sure, Brad. And bank robbers are just making unauthorized withdrawals.
Let’s be honest about what this was: a pathetic campaign stunt with a June 24th primary breathing down his neck. Lander needed headlines, and boy did he get them – just not the kind he was hoping for.
This wasn’t about justice or immigration policy. This was about a desperate politician who thought getting arrested would make him look like some kind of civil rights hero to his progressive base.
The funniest part? Lander thought he was the main character in this story. In reality, he became the punchline. ICE agents probably went back to the office laughing about the NYC bureaucrat who tried to physically wrestle an illegal immigrant away from federal law enforcement.

This is what peak Democratic desperation looks like: elected officials literally getting themselves arrested to score cheap political points. They’re so addicted to virtue signaling that they’ll interfere with federal law enforcement just to get their names trending.
The best part? It completely backfired. Instead of looking like a hero, Lander looks like exactly what he is – a desperate politician who doesn’t understand that federal agents don’t care about his mayoral ambitions.
