Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti at The Hill react to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo threatening anyone asking questions about his COVID-19 nursing home policies. Cuomo’s bullying response, they argue, resembles the actions by President Nixon in his infamous Watergate scandal.
Cuomo’s fury over accusations of his inaccurate nursing homes death counts led him to call the state assembly lawmaker who broke the story to the press of the coverup after Cuomo’s assistant admitted to it. NY state assemblyman Kim, who is a Democrat, reported that Cuomo berated him for 10 minutes, throwing a temper tantrum, yelling and threatening the lawmaker if he did not retract the story.
The state lawmaker reported that Cuomo said, “I hadn’t seen his wrath,” and that “he can destroy me.” So I guess you can say the relationship is getting serious at this point.
Unfortunately, the situation is not humorous. Governor Cuomo is allegedly responsible for covering up the deaths of his elderly citizens and responds with attempts to threaten those questioning his leadership.
Come to think of it, that sounds a lot like the Nixon scandal. Hopefully Governor Cuomo will face a similar response, with an investigation already underway.
