In recent weeks the radical left has exploited the COVID-19 crisis to push their vision of a government-run healthcare system. But some voices caution that the COVID-19 pandemic does not prove America needs a socialized healthcare system or Medicare for all.
Seeing current events as proof she has been right all along about her leftist ideology, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted that the COVID-19 crisis is a “great time” for implementing Medicare for All.
2020 Presidential candidate and socialist Bernie Sanders told reports that his “main takeaway” from the crisis is that it has “never been more important… [to pass] Medicare for All.”
However, the government’s ability to secure help from private businesses to combat the virus proves just the opposite. American companies have rushed to fill the void by retrofitting their facilities so they can donate critical medical supplies. Some of these include:
- Merck & Company recently delivered 500,000 masks to New York City Emergency Management.
- Ford and GM are modifying their facilities to produce ventilators and other medical equipment.
Meanwhile, countries with single-payer healthcare systems that were already struggling before the pandemic have done little to contain public health crises like the Coronavirus. Italy’s socialized healthcare system failed when just an extra 1,000 patients needed hospitalization. So too did the U.K.’s.
Watch the video to hear from Steven Crowder of Louder With Crowder. He lays out all the reasons why Medicare-for-All is not the answer to the current pandemic. As a bonus he makes some very valid points about the media’s failure in this crisis to report the stories of the private sector’s stepping forward to fight COVID-19.
