New GOP Bill Would Reward Moms for Staying Home with Newborns

The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) has a garbage provision in it that allows companies to financially cripple parents after the birth of a newborn. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) have introduced a bill to correct this horrible policy. It’s called the Fairness for Stay-at-Home-Parents Act.

Under current FMLA policy, employers are allowed to claw back up to $25,000 in health insurance premiums after the birth of a newborn—if the mom makes the decision to stay home with her baby and not go back to the workplace. This is an anti-family policy that disincentivizes parents from making the best choice for their children.

It’s such a punitive policy that it’s not even a real choice for most parents. Either lose $25,000 or put your newborn in some childcare facility so the mom can go back to work in a grimy cubicle for her employer.

Sen. Lee says the bill is intended to help growing American families. The Institute for Family Studies has praised the legislation, saying it gives parents more options when making decisions about their newborns. This is a serious problem with the FMLA that’s needed correction for many years.

Here’s Matt Walsh explaining why this is a good policy to promote family growth in America.

And because he’s Matt Walsh, he also explains why moms were never intended to be in the workplace in the first place:
