Rep. Nancy Pelosi snapped at a reporter yesterday when she dared to asked the Speaker is she still supported former Vice President Joe Biden despite the growing number of woman who have come forward with inappropriate touching or sexual assault claims against him.
Biden denies claims made by Tara Reade that he sexually assaulted her during the late 90s in the halls of the Senate building when she worked as a member of his staff. He said during an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, “I’m saying unequivocally, it never, never happened.”
Co-host Mika Brzezinski, countered by asking Biden if he stood by what he said during Brett Kavanaugh’s 2018 Supreme Court confirmation battle that, “when a woman went public with such an allegation it was likely true.”
Despite Biden’s bumbling answer, Pelosi contends that she can support the #Metoo movement and stand behind Biden at the same time. Her reasoning is telling, “There is also due process … And the fact that Joe Biden is Joe Biden.”
The Democratic party appears to have made its choice but many within its ranks are finding it difficult to be enthusiastic about their presumptive presidential nominee.
Bernie Sanders campaign former national press secretary recoiled at Pelosi’s glib response saying, “And with that went any moral credibility Democrats may have had on this issue.”
A recent USA Today survey showed that 60% of those who backed Sanders and are now expected to vote for Biden are “not very” excited or “not excited at all.” Which translates into likely low voter turn out for Biden.
