MSNBC Pundit: The Only Crime in D.C. Was January 6th

If you ever needed proof that the Democratic media machine lives in a completely different reality than the rest of America, look no further than MSNBC’s Anand Giridharadas. On a recent broadcast, Giridharadas was brought on to explain why crime in Washington, D.C., is supposedly no big deal. His conclusion? Aside from the “horrific” January 6th “insurrection,” crime essentially doesn’t exist in the nation’s capital.

Yes, you read that right. D.C. — a city that consistently ranks in the top five for homicide rates and where 98% of American cities are considered safer — apparently has just one “big” crime problem: a protest that happened four and a half years ago. And, according to him, that event was entirely orchestrated by Donald Trump and his supporters.

This isn’t just wrong. It’s insulting. Hundreds of people are murdered every year in D.C., residents endure carjackings, assaults, and robberies on a daily basis, and entire neighborhoods have been turned over to lawlessness. But when Democrats are confronted with these realities, they pull the same trick every time — change the subject to January 6th.

Giridharadas didn’t stop there. “Let’s be clear — D.C. does have one really big crime problem, which was the January 6th insurrection incited by the current president of the United States,” he said. “His first act in coming back was pardoning all the people who tried to overturn constitutional republic order in Washington, D.C.”

It’s the same well-worn script we’ve seen from Democrats since 2021: wildly overstate what happened on January 6th, ignore the government’s own role in provoking it, and use it as an all-purpose excuse or distraction whenever their own policies are failing. Rising crime? January 6th. Collapsing cities? January 6th. Political scandals? You guessed it — January 6th.

The absurdity only got worse when Giridharadas insisted he’s “not afraid” of being robbed in D.C., then rattled off the things he is afraid of — including climate change. Easy to say when you’re part of an elite class that never walks anywhere without a security detail. For the people who actually live in D.C. — the ones who can’t afford private guards — crime isn’t theoretical. It’s daily life.

This is the disconnect: Democrat politicians and their media allies don’t feel the consequences of their soft-on-crime policies. They live in protected bubbles, insulated from the chaos their policies create. That’s why they can afford to pretend that the only “real” crime problem in D.C. happened years ago, on a single day, and only because it serves as a political weapon against their opponents.

January 6th has become the Swiss Army knife of Democrat talking points — trotted out whenever the conversation turns uncomfortable. But outside the MSNBC greenroom, no one believes this nonsense anymore. While they’re busy rehashing a political riot from 2021, Americans are living with the consequences of policies that have made their cities more dangerous than they’ve been in decades.

For Giridharadas and the rest of the Democratic elite, that’s just background noise. For the rest of us, it’s reality.
