In a remarkably dopey and obtuse analysis on MSNBC of how to motivate voters, Cornell Belcher, President of Brilliant Corners Research, had this advice:
“Tell minority voters that they are in danger of ‘losing our democracy’ if the Republicans are placed back in charge.”
He asks women, “You think you don’t have rights now, what do you think will happen if we don’t have democracy?”
Belcher also warns African American men, who he believes are disconnected from the voting process, that their rights are going to be ignored when “there’s no democracy.”
“Quite frankly,” Belcher says, “we’ve got to scare the hell out of them because they should be afraid” of what will happen when democratically elected legislators somehow abolish our democracy.
America is a republic, not a democracy. The upcoming midterm elections, given the miserable performance of President Biden and the Democrats in both houses, will likely result in a red wave brought about by Biden’s astonishingly inept performance and broken campaign promises.
And, yes, Mr. Belcher, it will be through the democratically expressed will of the people.
Nevertheless, according to Belcher, black men and women just aren’t scared enough. The Democrats have to convince them that their way of life is in danger.
Women, democrats warn, will lose all their reproductive rights. Black men will continue to be oppressed by the criminal justice system.
Where this guy misses the mark is that the average African American is concerned more about earning a living and putting food on the table—as is every other America no matter the color of their skin.
So, expect another round of Hillary Clinton-like denials after the Democrats lose the midterms. Watch Mr. Belcher’s complete comments in the video below.
