It turns out that shutting down an entire economy to “protect” people from a virus does more harm than good. Who would have thought that was possible?!
We now have the incredibly unsettling prospect of a meat shortage on the horizon in America. But this is far, far different than the other shortages we’ve witnessed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
For example, the toilet paper shortages at the store are not due to a shortage of toilet paper. It’s due to a problem with the supply chain. The toilet paper we all buy at the grocery store for our homes is part of a different supply chain for toilet paper, which supplies TP for your workplace, schools and businesses. The TP shortage at the grocery stores is because of a supply chain disruption.
The potential meat shortage that we’re facing on the horizon is due to an actual supply disruption and not a supply chain disruption. Workers at several major meat processing plants have been coming down sick with COVID-19 and that has left some plants dangerously understaffed. This is truly terrifying and uncharted territory for us here in the United States.
Other worrying signs include dairy farmers dumping millions of gallons of milk out on the ground. Vegetable farmers are plowing vegetables back into the fields.
The reason? All of the restaurants are shut down, so there’s not as much demand for cheese, milk products and veggies. That’s terrifying, especially when you see how long the lines at food banks have become since millions are out of work.
Check out this video which explains the major meat supply disruption that could be headed our way soon.
