With New York City mayor Bill de Blasio currently pursuing the laughable goal of becoming President, speculation is swirling as to who should take his place as the leader of America’s largest city. While qualified candidates abound, the New York Post has decided to back perhaps the least qualified candidate of them all by suggesting that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should run for mayor of New York.
Perhaps the editors at the New York Post are so ready to kick Ocasio-Cortez out of Congress that they are hoping to lure her away with another job. Otherwise, the reasons for hoping that Ocasio-Cortez runs for mayor of New York seem pretty threadbare.
In the short time that Ocasio-Cortez has been a representative of New York, she has done nothing but embarrass herself, her party, and the constituents that elected her. Her only legislative proposal thus far – the failed “Green New Deal” – is so bad that economists predicted it would bankrupt the country and not a single Democratic senator could bring themselves to vote in favor of it when – as a mockery – it was brought to a vote on the Senate floor.
Nevertheless, it is true that, if elected mayor of New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wouldn’t have very big shoes to fill. Mayor Bill de Blasio has set the bar so low that perhaps even Ocasio-Cortez would be an improvement for the city.
