Everyone seems to enjoy calling President Trump a fascist. That’s pretty amazing considering the primary philosophy of his office has been deregulation, smaller government and less military intervention abroad. None of those things sound particularly fascist to anyone who is being honest. Add to that the fact that every single American has more opportunity and freedom today than they did two years ago, and the accusations fall apart completely.
That doesn’t mean that our federal government is free of fascism. Instead of the mainstream narrative, there are prominent members of Congress who are following eerily familiar rhetoric. Maybe you’ve heard some of these statements. “Any society that allows billionaires to exist is immoral.” That quote came from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rather recently.
Here’s a slightly older, possibly more famous quote, “The bourgeoisie must be completely vanquished . . . its wealth confiscated.” That little gem comes from a man you might have heard of before, Joseph Stalin. It doesn’t take professional analysis to see the very obvious parallel. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez genuinely dreams of being the next Stalin.
