The massive Pacific Palisades/Malibu wildfire that devastated the cities back in January is back in the news this week. The Trump administration arrested a suspect who they believe set the Pacific Palisades fire in January. The story of people trying to rebuild their homes in California’s Byzantine red-tape permitting environment is going exactly as predicted.
One of the people who was impacted by the fire was Adam Corolla. Just 8 hours after the fire broke out and he was forced to evacuate, Corolla predicted that California’s bureaucratic nightmare would prevent people from rebuilding.
It’s been nine months since the fire, and Corolla was correct. He’s been doing an infuriating vlog series on the nonexistent rebuilding efforts, especially in Malibu. Nine months after they lost their homes, the city has only issued two (2) rebuilding permits. One appears to have been for a Taco Bell along the Pacific Coast Highway.
The families who lost their homes have been stuck in a sort of permitting purgatory this whole time. They can’t rebuild their homes, so some are resorting to selling the empty lots that they’ve owned for years. Chinese-backed investors are buying up the oceanfront property in Malibu, where Americans used to live.
California Governor Gavin Newsom promised he would streamline the permitting process. Like everything else that comes out of Newsom’s mouth, that was a lie.
Watch as Corolla walks you through the ongoing devastation of an American city because of Democrat policies:
