Leftist Activists Hijack Church Nativity Scene

Here we go again—another church more interested in pushing political talking points than preaching the Gospel. This time it’s St. Susanna in Dedham, Massachusetts, where the annual Nativity scene has been hijacked by left-wing activists masquerading as clergy.

Instead of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, they’ve got an empty manger with a sign that says “ICE was here.” Not kidding. Right next to the spot where baby Jesus should be, there’s ICE graffiti, along with contact info for a group that monitors immigration enforcement. Because nothing says Christmas like dragging federal law enforcement into your front-lawn display.

The man behind the madness? Father Stephen Josoma, the pastor of St. Susanna. He claims the display is meant to show “what would it be like if Christ was born into the context of the world today.” According to him, this is “religious art” that’s supposed to make people think and feel. Well, mission accomplished—people are definitely feeling something, mostly outrage.

C.J. Doyle from the Catholic Action League isn’t buying the “art” excuse. He says Josoma is “politicizing Christmas” and “trivializing the Holy Family” to push his own leftist ideology. And he’s right. This isn’t the first time St. Susanna has pulled a stunt like this. In 2018, they locked baby Jesus in a cage to protest border enforcement. Another year, it was climate change. What’s next? Jesus in a mask for COVID-25?

Josoma says the church has the right to speak out on moral issues. Sure, but maybe start with the Bible and leave the Democrat talking points at the door. Christmas is supposed to be about hope, not hashtags and political protest signs.
