Kentucky Town Celebrates the Fourth as Only True Americans Can

Between 1979 and 1985, 147 episodes of the greatest television show of all time aired in family homes across America. Sadly, The Dukes of Hazzard was canceled after an all-too-short seven seasons.

Millions of boys were captivated every Friday night by the adventures of the Duke boys. As an 8-year-old, I longed for the day when I would be old enough to buy my own bright orange 1969 Dodge Charger, weld its doors shut, and tear off across town raising hell.

Then, after the damn government took away my Second Amendment rights for transporting moonshine across state lines, I’d drive around shooting arrows with sticks of dynamite attached to them at cop cars.

Wait… that show didn’t age very well, did it?

Fortunately, there is a magical place in Kentucky where dreams never die!

The good folks in the town of Somerset always do a big, community-wide countdown of special events leading up to the Fourth of July. They call it the Somernites Cruise, and it is always a good time.

This year, stuntman Raymond Kohn jumped a Dukes of Hazzard replica car 150 feet over the town fountain. As you’ve probably already guessed, this is not the first time Raymond has done this in Somerset.

The British must think we’re the weirdest people on earth when they see all the incredible ways that we celebrate our independence from them. And you know what? We don’t care!
