Indiana Dem Running for County Council Threatens 'We Have Guns Too' After Ranting About Firing All Republicans

Jaime West, a Democratic candidate for Fayette County Council in Indiana, sat down for a local candidate interview last Friday and managed to threaten gun violence, pledge to fire every Republican she could find, and fabricate a death threat from a sheriff's nephew who doesn't exist — all in a single segment.

The interview is now circulating nationally. It deserved to.

West is running for the District 4 seat on the Fayette County Council, a local government position that mostly involves budget votes and zoning disputes. She opened by explaining her management philosophy for the role. "Firing all Republicans," West told the interviewer. "I wouldn't let them — I don't even talk to them. I don't like 'em."

That was the warm-up.

From there, West pivoted to immigration enforcement, addressing MAGA voters directly. "Y'all did this to us," she said. "Y'all voted for us. You made this happen, this ICE..." She then offered her assessment of roughly half the electorate she's asking to represent: "These MAGAs, who are just racist and aren't very intelligent at all."

West then claimed she'd been physically threatened "so many times to my face by MAGA" and offered a specific accusation. "The sheriff's nephew threatened to blow my head off," she said. "But, you know, what are you going to do?"

Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones had an answer. "I don't know Jaime West, and she obviously doesn't know me," Jones said. "I have five nieces and zero nephews."

Jones added: "I'm not sure what she is talking about, and I'm certain she has no idea what she is talking about either."

The sheriff doesn't have a nephew. There is no nephew. West invented a death threat from a person who does not exist to justify what came next.

"We have guns too."

That was her closing thought. A candidate for county council — a position that handles road maintenance budgets and drainage ordinances — warning her political opponents that her side is armed. On camera. During a candidate interview. Three weeks before the November 3 election.

The Daily Wire's Drew Berkemeyer reported the story Tuesday. LifeZette picked it up the same day, crediting RVM News for surfacing the video.

West's Republican opponent for the District 4 seat is Gary Keener Jr. He has not, to anyone's knowledge, threatened to shoot Democrats during a candidate forum. That apparently puts him ahead on professionalism.

The "we have guns too" line is worth sitting with for a moment — not because it's unusual for Americans to own firearms, but because of what it means when a Democratic candidate uses it. This is the party that has spent the last decade arguing that gun rhetoric from the right creates a "climate of violence." Every Republican who's ever mentioned the Second Amendment at a rally has been accused of stochastic terrorism by the same people now shrugging at a county council candidate warning her opponents that she's packing.

West fabricated a threat to paint herself as a victim, then used the fabricated threat to justify an actual threat of her own. The sheriff's response collapsed the whole narrative in two sentences. Five nieces. Zero nephews.
