Hollywood has been at the root of PC culture for decades. Seinfeld was the most popular TV show in the world when they dedicated an entire episode to telling us all that there’s nothing wrong with being gay. There was no subtlety in it. They had an agenda, and they forced it upon us.
As you know, that one episode was hardly an exception; it was the rule. Even Star Wars has been appropriated for pushing radical (and ridiculous) social agendas. Everywhere we turn, Hollywood is trying to tell us what to believe and how to live.
But, in the past two years, the social agenda has backfired. The masses have started holding Hollywood elites to the standards they espouse, and none of them pass muster.
This brings us to Ricky Gervais. He’s a comedian, and he comes from an era when comedians were bold. They were still allowed to say whatever they wanted, and shock-value comedy was all the rage. He’s not fond of PC culture. Say what you will, he’s been an outspoken advocate of free speech for years.
So, when he agreed to host the Golden Globes this year, the stage was set for something spectacular. With no regard to backlash, he unleashed his old-school comedy on the ivory tower itself. He minced no words. He spared no feelings. He completely dismantled all of the elites in Hollywood. It was funny, poignant and left many indignant faces in the crowd.
