Several things must be in place in order for a democracy to function as it should. One of the most important – and oft-overlooked – keys to a functioning democracy is a voting public that is educated about their government and the issues that it faces.
In that regard, how is the United States fairing? If the video below is any evidence, the answer is not so well. To get a feel for how well Americans know their Presidents, a reporter from PragerU took to the streets to ask participants simple questions such as who the first President was as well as humorous trick questions such as what they thought about Trump’s Gettysburg Address. The results were mind-blowing.
Keep in mind that these same people who don’t know that George Washington was the first President and who are unaware that Donald Trump was not, in fact, the President who delivered the Gettysburg Address in 1863 will be the ones shaping United States policy with their votes for years to come.
The level of unawareness present in America today is really something you have to see for yourself to believe. With that said, be sure to check out the video below – it’s both hilarious and deeply concerning at the same time.
