Brittney Griner, the female WNBA player who was arrested in Russia after illegally smuggling in some form of cannabis oil, has been a major focus for the Biden administration who has desperately been trying to get her out – but what about the countless Americans jailed for the same thing here at home?
With cannabis being illegal in Russia, Griner was sentenced to 9 and a half years in prison (the maximum sentence) and Biden’s team has demanded Russia release her, even reportedly considering trading a convicted Russian arms dealer in exchange for her freedom at one point.
Meanwhile the Biden administration has chosen to ignore the tens of thousands of Americans imprisoned for marijuana related crimes in the United States right now.
Even worse, many of those Americans were actually sent to jail by Vice President Kamala Harris herself during her time as California’s Attorney General.
During her roughly 6-year tenure as attorney general, at least 1,560 people were thrown behind bars for marijuana-related offenses in the state where recreational cannabis use is now fully legal.
So while we have grown accustomed to seeing massive fits of hypocrisy out of the Biden administration, it’s clear that their efforts to get Griner out of Russia are little more than a publicity stunt and they don’t actually care about helping people.
