The government has reopened after the House voted on Wednesday on the Continuing Resolution that should have passed over a month ago. But… it was only after the House was debating the CR that they noticed something truly shocking in it.
We learned recently that Jack Smith’s witch hunt against President Trump ended up spying on thousands of Trump supporters. They really did plan to try to send thousands of MAGA voters to a gulag because we know the 2020 election was stolen.
Eight Republican Senators were dragged into Smith’s Arctic Frost witch hunt. Smith’s team at the DOJ spied on their communications for just four days back in 2021.
The GOP Senators were rightly outraged that they were spied upon. They want to make sure that Senators won’t be spied upon by the DOJ ever again. (They don’t care at all if YOU were spied upon, without a warrant.)
Someone slipped a provision into the CR that each of the eight Republican Senators can collect a $500,000 penalty from the DOJ for each line of communication that Smith’s team illegally probed. This includes their cell phones, office phones, landlines, home phones, email addresses, and more.
Each of the Republican Senators will get a $3 million taxpayer-funded settlement, while the Trump supporters who were spied on much more prolifically get nothing.
Fortunately, many House Republicans are disgusted by this. Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) exposed it in a hearing on Wednesday:
