Let’s get this straight. We’re facing a health crisis. Everyone can agree on that. In response to the crisis, our leaders essentially banned commerce. That’s bad for the economy.
So, to soften the blow to the economy — a blow caused entirely by government interference — President Trump and Republicans in the Senate negotiated a stimulus package to help the hardest hit Americans and small businesses.
The whole thing is messy, but if it’s the government’s fault that the economy is in trouble, it stands to reason that the government has a responsibility to mitigate that damage. The Republicans in the Senate worked extra hours in bipartisan fashion with several Democrats (Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer being one of them) to come up with a stimulus plan that everyone could support. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a legitimate compromise and a promise of help.
Then, the Democrats, under Nancy Pelosi’s leadership, tanked that bill. Twice. After that, they forced some minor changes and passed it unanimously. Even Bernie Sanders voted for it.
Naturally, Nancy Pelosi decided this was a good time to go back to the drawing board and try to include more far left agenda items in the stimulus bill.
She refused to even vote on the bill for a full week while the economy is in crisis.
