If you support the idea of “defunding the police,” then you really haven’t thought the issue through at all. Aside from the fact that policing a community is not “racist,” the police are kinda, sorta necessary if you want to maintain a civilization. And by “civilization” we mean a place that has electricity and running water just as a baseline.
Two of the loudest voices for defunding the police have been House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). AOC supports the idea because it is a terrible idea and she supports all terrible ideas. Green New Deal, anyone? Pelosi supports it because she is under the bizarre delusion that if Black Lives Matter takes over the country, she will be placed in charge of it.
Many Democrats in power also support the idea for two additional reasons. First, police have fairly good-sized budgets in many metro (Democrat-run) cities. And wouldn’t it be better for Democrats if they could free up more of that money for projects where a lot more personal graft is possible?
The second reason is because police unions tend to be one of the last remaining semi-conservative public institutions in America. And therefore, they must be destroyed, because every institution from the Boy Scouts to the universities must be coopted, liberalized and destroyed.
Tom Homan, who worked in law enforcement for 30 years and served as President Trump’s acting Director of ICE for more than a year, has a suggestion for and their big plan to “defund the police.” Check out this short clip where he makes an offer to Pelosi and AOC.
