It’s been a heavy and depressing week in America with all the bad news going on. How about a happy story for a change?
In Jacksonville, Florida, a 5-year-old boy got up early over the weekend and was feeling hungry. His parents were still asleep, so William left the house on his own, somehow escaped from his parents’ gated and fenced yard (wait until you see it), and went to Chick-fil-A for breakfast.
Fortunately, there was no heavy traffic that day and William safely made it to the restaurant. Also, it was a Chick-fil-A, so the staff took good care of him and fed him breakfast while waiting for some Patrol Officers to arrive.
The cops then took William for a drive until he recognized his home, which was just a few minutes away. The parents were shocked because they were still asleep and didn’t realize he had left the house.
Back in July, Florida passed the Reasonable Childhood Independence Law to protect parents from overzealous prosecution if they don’t know the exact location of their child at all times of the day. So, the parents didn’t face any charges. William made it home safe and sound, and the story had a happy ending all around.
The police released the body cam footage of the “incident,” which we hope will put a smile on your face:
