CNN Anchor Don Lemon may have just suffered the single most embarrassing moment of his career when a guest interview didn’t exactly go according to his plan.
Lemon was speaking with British Royals expert Hillary Fordwich when he suggested to her that the Royal family should pay reparations to black people.
“You have those who are asking for reparations for colonialism, and they’re wondering, you know, ‘$100 billion, $24 billion here and there, $500 million there.’”
“Some people want to be paid back and members of the public are wondering, ‘Why are we suffering when you are, you have all this vast wealth?’ Those are legitimate concerns,” Lemon stated.
Fordwich agreed that reparations should be paid, but it was not exactly what Lemon was hoping for. Her response left him speechless and created this instantly viral moment.
“Well I think you’re right about reparations in terms of – if people want it though, what they need to do is, you always need to go back to the beginning of the supply chain. Where was the beginning of the supply chain?” she asked.
“That was in Africa,” she continued, suggesting the African kings who “were rounding up their own people” are the ones that should pay.
She also pointed out that “2,000 British naval men died on the high seas trying to stop slavery” as the Africans were holding their own people in cages on the beaches.
She concluded, “I think you’re totally right. If reparations need to be paid, we need to go right back to the beginning of that supply chain and say, ‘Who was rounding up their own people and having them handcuffed in cages. Absolutely, that’s where they should start.”
Afterwards, Lemon was so shaken by her response that he simply nodded and admitted defeat, moving on to the next segment without addressing any of the knowledge she had just dropped.

Former slaves in the U.S.A. already got reparations in the form of 40 acres of land and a mule to plow that land so they could grow their own food and sustain themselves. That may not seem like much but if someone today gave you forty acres of land for free it’s value could be substantial. If there are any former slaves living today, by all means give them additional reparations. Otherwise, no. You shouldn’t profit from the condition of servitude of your second or third great grandparents. In a way, that could make you the slave master of your own ancestors.
